Velvet Ginger Lemonade
This is a very exciting episode.
I have a brand new toy and drink lemonade for the first time in 8 years. It was a big moment for me pretty much all around.
Don’t I look happy? That’s cause I AM. This lemonade rocked my socks off.
And if you’re feeling a little tired, and don’t want to drink caffeine, this lemonade will WAKE YOU UP. I can attest to that.
- 1 cup freshly squeezed Lemon Juice
- 1 cup Agave Nectar
- 1 Tbsp peeled & grated Ginger (or more to taste)
- 1 to 2 scrubbed Whole Organic Lemons with the seeds removed
- Minced fresh Mint Leaves
- 6 to 8 cups Filtered Water
- Put the agave & lemon juice in a sauce pan. Mix and heat on low until fully combined.
- Combine the syrup, grated ginger, & lemons in the vitamix
- Stir in water, and serve garnished with fresh mint leaves
- Drink!
And a huge thanks to Tess Masters, aka The Blender Girl, over at Healthy Blender Recipes who came up with this phenomenal recipe. I had the privilege of meeting Tess a few months ago. She is completely lovely, fantastic and (bonus!) writes delicious and easy recipes. Check out her site!
When’s the last time you had lemonade? (It had been a loooong time for me. 8 years.) Let me know in the comments!
And please share this episode widely and wildly!

Yum!!! I use maple syrup for my lemonade. I’m going to have to try the ginger mint thing.
Brielle, it’s so good. The ginger really makes it. Maple syrup sounds good too though… I think I’ll try that next time as well.
as a seasoned Vitamix owner, i can tell you that you DO NOT have to grate that ginger the next time. you saw what it did to quartered lemons, so you can trust it’ll do the same thing to the ginger–BLITZCREIG!! why not throw the mint in there too? then you’d get the zing of that as well, without the “getting in the way” problem. just sayin’.
i use mine every day and i adore it! have fun experimenting! it makes THE BEST smooth soups and smoothies!
AWESOME. That is great to hear, Jenn. Not that this recipe is in anyway hard, but it’s really nice to have yet another thing I can throw in and blitzcreig in the Vitamix. And yeah.. I think I’ll toss the mint in there two. I love the mint flavor, but not so much the eating of the leaves.
Thanks so much for your ideas! They are stellar!
I would have just thrown the ginger in, feeling super lazy too these days lol. It’s just too hot outside. I think I’m getting a Vitamix soon, your exciting squeals made me want one even more!
It’s been AMAAAAAAZIIIIING. Really has made my life simpler. I love stuff like that. It’s fantastic for the lazy cook.
Like me.
Last time I made lemonade? Now that you mention it, it has been awhile. This looks like some amazing stuff Lil. Love the addition of mint.
Janae, MAKE ITTTTTTTTTT.
Woot! How exciting, Lillian. So glad you are enjoying lemonade again. It’s my favorite.
This recipe is very similar to the one I often make(and have been making for years) so I can attest to this lovely combination of flavors. I first started making it when I was diagnosed with CD nearly 9 years ago. I loved it for the cleansing power of lemon, anti-inflammatory properties of ginger, and stomach calming mint. I use honey (as I’m able to digest it better). But I’ve also made with stevia.
Here’s my recipe:

Sweet! Thanks Amber, I’ll have to try it with honey. Your recipe is almost exactly like this one. I guess great minds (yours and Tess’s) think alike!
This sounds delicious. Love the belly dance!
Thanks Heather!
Thanks so much Heather!
Put the mint in with the lemon juice and agave to release some of the mint oil, then pull out/strain out the mint leaves before blending. Before I had to drop cane sugar I always infused my simple syrup for lemonade with mint.
Another fun trick – use fizzy water instead of plain old H2O to jazz it up and serve in champagne glasses to make brunch fancy!
Ooooh! BOTH of your ideas sound delicious! Thanks Britt!
Ooooh! Bubble water! (Or as my niece and nephew call it) Spicy water! That sounds amazing. I need to do that soon. I looove bubbles. Thanks Britt!
I just made some the other day with “spicy water” and it was a huge hit. I’m allergic to agave (sad!!) but honey subs in just fine!
Oh, I’m so envious of your new red VitaMix. Mine is old and doesn’t have all those awesome dials yours has. I love making my own lemonade drinks. Mine are more sports recovery drinks, but they’re very similar. Ginger is such a zippy (and healthy) addition! Good idea!
You crack me up. Love your camera presence! It’s so much fun visiting Lillian’s Test Kitchen!
Melissa
What’s your sports recovery drink like? Is it still delicious? Cause I’ll drink that.
Thanks so much Melissa!
Yum! I like honey with lemon, and I keep meaning to make it. You inspire
Thanks Alisa! This is soooo good.
I should totally try this lemonade with honey at some point. That sounds deeeelicious.
