What’s Your GratiTUDE? Day 103 (Inspiration)
Today I am grateful for inspiration.
I heard Seth Godin speak today. I got a free copy of his book “V is for Vulnerable” and this is my favorite part of it (so far):
“Pain is the truth of art. Art is not a hobby or a pastime. It is the result of an internal battle royal, one between the quest for safety and the desire to matter.”
One of my two favorite things that he said today was this on leadership and what “it” is: “Leadership is seeing where you want to go and not knowing how you get there.”
My second favorite thing he said was this: “Go out and make a ruckus.”
Okay.
What’s your gratiTUDE, today?
What is a “GratiTUDE”?:
GratiTUDE is a general attitude of thankfulness and gratefulness.
What is “What’s Your GratiTUDE?”: Every day, for as long as I can keep it going, I’m going to tell you something I’m grateful for. I want to do this because I want to remind myself how fortunate I am in a more concrete way. They will be small things, big things, meaningful things, and seemingly inconsequential things. They may repeat on some days if I happen to feel grateful for the same thing more than once. I’m not planning it or mapping it out. I’m just feeling grateful, publicly. And I’d like you, if you’re feeling it, to do the same.

could you elaborate on the first statement, because that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me on its face. seems like there would have to be more to clarify that. still, great stuff!
i’m just starting a book by brene brown called dare greatly. google her TED talk and you’ll see why your gratiTUDE intrigued me today.
I’ve seen her TEDtalk. It is great.
To me, this statement is a validation of art and all the internal struggles that an artist goes through in order to keep creating it. I guess it spoke to me because I recognize myself in it. I want to matter more than I want to be safe, so I create art. But those two desires are always fighting each other. It’s a constant struggle to feel safe while still finding a way to create work and put it out there that, I hope, matters to the world, or at least, to you.
that makes sense. i just think of seth as a business guy; perhaps i don’t have that right. in any case, what he said was thought provoking, which is good enough reason to put it out there.
and, yes, what you do does matter, girl!
